The global battle for artificial intelligence is becoming more intense, and now one of the biggest tech companies in the world has openly admitted losing ground in China.
Nvidia revealed that it has “practically surrendered” the Chinese AI chip market to Huawei after years of restrictions imposed by the United States on advanced technology exports.
According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the company once controlled more than 90% of China’s AI chip market. Today, that dominance has fallen sharply as Chinese companies increasingly switch to local alternatives developed by Huawei and other domestic brands.

The biggest reason behind this change is the ongoing technology conflict between the United States and China. The US government has limited the sale of high-performance AI chips to Chinese companies, arguing that the technology could be used for military purposes or strengthen China’s strategic influence in artificial intelligence.
Because of these restrictions, Nvidia was unable to sell some of its most advanced chips in China. That opened the door for Huawei to grow rapidly and expand its own AI hardware business.
Huawei has been investing heavily in processors designed for AI training, cloud computing, and large language models. Chinese companies are now showing more confidence in local technology instead of relying on American suppliers.

The situation highlights how quickly the global AI industry is changing. While the United States tries to slow China’s technological progress, Chinese companies are accelerating their efforts to become independent in critical sectors like semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
Even with the loss of market share in China, Nvidia remains one of the world’s most powerful tech companies. Its AI chips still dominate major global projects used by companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google.
Meanwhile, Huawei’s rise signals a major shift in the AI race. Experts believe China’s growing chip industry could reshape the global technology market over the next few years.
China remains one of the largest and most valuable AI markets in the world. Losing such a massive market is a significant setback for Nvidia, but for Huawei, it represents a huge opportunity to establish itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence technology.
